In case you missed it, make sure to read this West County Times article about the building of the Bay Trail along Richmond’s shoreline.

The article profiles Bruce Beyaert, 77, a former top environmental manager for Chevron USA who currently leads the highly-effective Trails for Richmond Action Committee (TRAC).

Among other interesting facts, the Times reports that 32 of Richmond’s 42 planned Bay Trail miles have been completed, more than any of the 46 Bay Area cities along the trail. In total, 500 miles of trail are planned for the Bay Area shoreline.

Councilman Tom Butt touted Beyaert’s leadership. But the humble Beyaert gave all the credit to the collective work by people involved in TRAC, saying it takes much effort to establish even a short section of trail.

There are many more interesting details in the story, along with a 5-minute video about the trail construction effort.
