A woman was fatally shot in the Sante Fe neighborhood Thursday night, becoming the city's first homicide of 2014.A woman was fatally shot in the Sante Fe neighborhood Thursday night, becoming Richmond’s first homicide victim of 2014.

Police patrolling the area heard gunshots just before 10 p.m. and located the victim near S. 4th Street and Florida Avenue, police spokeswoman Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The woman, described as being in her 30s or 40s, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso area, Abetkov said. Richmond fire personnel attempted to revive the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, who is not a Richmond resident, will not be identified publicly until next of kin is notified.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating suspects. There were apparently no witnesses aside from someone who saw a possible getaway vehicle.

“The only information that we have is that a burgundy colored sedan with gold rims was seen leaving the area,” Abetkov said.

Abetkov added, “There’s nothing indicating gang activity.”

Anyone with information about the homicide is encouraged to call the Richmond Police Department’s non-emergency number at (510) 233-1214 or the anonymous tip line at (510) 232-TIPS.
