A man on parole for shooting at a Richmond cop several years ago was arrested early Monday following a pursuit in the city during which he allegedly attempted to ram a police car with his vehicle, police said.

Michael Robinson, 29, of Richmond, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol about 3 a.m. when a police sergeant attempted to pull him over at 22nd Street and Bissell Avenue, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Robinson failed to stop and led police on a brief chase. He lost control of his vehicle and spun out at 24th Street and Broadway, Abetkov said.

As the pursuing sergeant approached the intersection, Robinson allegedly attempted to ram his police car before driving off again. The chase continued about seven more blocks until Robinson crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle at 25th Street and Grant Avenue. He was arrested and wasn’t injured, Abetkov said, but he’s facing numerous charges.

“He’s already on parole for…firing a gun at a sergeant several years ago in Richmond,” Abetkov said. “During that incident, he was shot by the sergeant and lost one of this legs as a result.”

Robinson was booked on suspicion of DUI with an evading police enhancement, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and for violating parole.

Drive-by shooting on 7th Street

A man was shot in the leg and arm while sitting in his vehicle in the 800 block of 7th Street Sunday night, Richmond police said.

The victim, who wasn’t identified, was alone in his car about 10 p.m. when a gray, four-door sedan drove by. At least one occupant in the sedan opened fire on the victim’s vehicle, striking him in this left leg and arm, Abetkov said.

The suspect’s vehicle sped off northbound on 7th Street; no arrests have been made.

The victim was transported to John Muir Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive.

No witnesses have been identified and no suspect information was available, Abetkov said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Richmond police at (510) 620-6647.
