A man was shot multiple times in the 2500 block of Maine Avenue Tuesday night, police said.

Richmond police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation about 9:15 p.m. and found the man, who hasn’t been identified, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police Lt. Andre Hill said. He was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is expected to survive.

A dark Honda or similar vehicle was seen speeding from the area after the shooting, but there have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, Hill said.

The shooting followed two homicides by gunfire in Richmond since Thursday. Early Saturday, 24-year-old Clarence Wesley Celestine Jr. was fatally shot in the area of S. 35th Street and Wall Avenue. On Thursday night, a woman was shot dead at S. 4th Street and Florida Avenue. No arrests have been made in either incident.

The gun violence followed a relatively nonviolent start to 2014 in Richmond during which both violent and property crimes significantly declined.
