The Hercules soccer team came just short of winning the North Coast Section Division II championship, falling 3-1 in a penalty kick shootout to Dublin after two overtime periods on Saturday.

The Gaels’ halfback Matt Samaro was named Player of the Game for his “strong defense, great passing, terrific decisions,” the team said on Samaro also scored the game-winning penalty kick.

Hercules, which was the No. 4 seed, finished with a 19-3-6 record, while No. 3 Dublin finished 21-2-4.
