Despite defeating Pinole Valley 3-1 on Wednesday to reach the Tri County Athletic League tournament championship game, the Richmond boys varsity soccer team has become plagued by injuries, Coach Rene Siles said.

During the last two games, six Oilers have been injured, according to the coach, meaning the team will be down a half-dozen starters heading into the TCAL championship game on Saturday against Hercules (click to expand the tournament brackets on the left). What’s worse, Siles is concerned his team won’t be healed before the start of the North Coast Section playoffs next week.

Siles described Pinole Valley as “young” and “feisty.”

“They created some problems for us,” he said.

Richmond had a 2-1 halftime lead with goals from junior Addison Escobar and senior Harold Erroa. The Oilers sealed the game with a goal from senior Eduardo Bautista in the second half.

Siles said he has complained to league officials about having the TCAL tournament right before the NCS playoffs.

“Three games in five days…it seems like a way to make sure we’re not ready for NCS,” the coach said. “That’s frustrating. We work hard all season and we’d like to be in the best condition going in.”

  1. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was
wondering what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a
blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart
so I’m not 100% certain. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
