Hilltop Mall was honored Thursday for its support of the Richmond Police Athletic League last year, including hosting the Christmas “Shop with a Cop” event.

The mall was honored at Richmond PAL’s annual luncheon along with Bay Area Beverage, Bowlers Mart Trophies & Awards, BP, Home Depot and Mel’s Diner.

Hilltop Mall has consistently participated in the Richmond PAL’s efforts to offer Richmond children an alternative to the streets, said Marsha Pekasky, the nonprofit’s office manager.

“They’ve been so supportive of us,” Pekasky said Thursday.

Hilltop Mall hosted the Richmond PAL’s annual holiday event that gives up to 30 kids $100 apiece to go on a shopping spree. The mall had stores offer discounts to the kids, who were accompanied by police officers as they shopped.

The mall also sponsored free lunches from Burger King, free carousel rides and supplied a room where kids could wrap presents.
