Honor Dr. Seuss’ b-day by reading to your kids

Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904 – Sept. 24 1991)

Parents in the West Contra Costa County Unified School District are being asked to read with their children March 2 as part of a national event honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

At its meeting Thursday, the district’s board of education is set to adopt a resolution encouraging participation in Read Across America, a National Education Association event.

March 2 is the birthday of the late author Theodor Seuss Geisel, who penned the famous Dr. Seuss children’s books. March 2 is also the day when children and parents across America don the hat worn by the cat in one of Dr. Seuss’ better known books, The Cat in the Hat.

According to the proposed resolution: “The governing board of the West Contra Costa Unified School District joins with the United Teachers of Richmond, CTA/NEA in calling on citizens of West Contra Costa to assure that every child is in a safe place reading with a caring adult on March 2.”
