Undercover police officers will be patrolling the area of Pacific East Mall and the Hilltop Mall in order to bust car thieves.

“We’re doing lots of extra patrols,” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. “That pedestrian a shopper or a cop?!”

Early this morning, police said, a Richmond police K9 helped nab a 30-year-old suspected car thief on Barrett Avenue. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, attempted to flee from officers about 2 a.m., but failed to negotiate a turn from Barrett Avenue onto Interstate Highway 80.
