Richmond outlasted Kennedy 71-69 in a boys’ varsity basketball bout Wednesday night that went into overtime.

Kennedy, the host team, stole the momentum with a 21-point third quarter, but the Oilers held the Eagles to 11 points in the fourth and just 4 in overtime to seal the win.

Senior Otis Doss and junior Daronte Shaw led the Oilers with 21 points apiece. Senior Thomas Schneckenberger chipped in 13 and junior Armoni Norton 11 for Richmond.

Richmond improves to 5-15 this year, 2-3 in league play. Kennedy is now 7-12 overall, 2-3 in league play.

Kennedy will next travel to Albany (17-4, 4-1) Friday night. That same night, Richmond will play at De Anza (2-14, 0-4).

Meanwhile, in girl’s varsity basketball, Kennedy routed Richmond 82-12 after outscoring the Oilers 28-1 in the first quarter.
