A Richmond middle school art teacher will exhibit his paintings next month at a New York City gallery as part of a three-week show that will benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation.
The story about Stephen Von Mason, a Vallejo resident who teaches art at Making Waves Academy Middle School, was first reported in the Vallejo Times-Herald. Read the full story here.
Von Mason is one of 22 artists featured at Art to Heart at Agora Gallery from Feb. 7 to Feb. 27. A portion of the proceeds from the artwork sold during the show will be donated to the Children’s Heart Foundation, the gallery said. February is American Heart Month.
According to The Times-Herald, Von Mason has been teaching art at Making Waves for six years, having been brought on after the school opened to create an arts program.
Von Mason reportedly uses oils on canvas to “create stylized, intensely-colored paintings” that focus on “story and narrative” and provides a “critical view of social and cultural dynamics,” according to Agora Gallery. The gallery added that Von Mason’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited worldwide.
