No tomatoes were thrown at Councilman Nathaniel Bates during Tuesday’s council meeting – even though he offered praise for a Seattle Seahawk.

Despite the 49ers’ crushing 23-17 loss in Sunday’s NFC Championship, Bates gave props to Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, a Richmond resident.

“I know this is a little bit uncommon,” Bates said at the end of the council meeting. “All of us 49ers fans are disappointed in the loss, however, there is some good news in that the Seattle Seahawks…have an individual on that team who was outstanding, a University of California graduate, who happens to live in the city of Richmond and is my neighbor.”

In 2012, Lynch purchased a mansion for $3.6 million in Richmond, according to this San Francisco Chronicle report.  He was born and raised in Oakland.

On Sunday, Lynch ran for 109 yards on 22 carries, including a jaw-dropping 40-yard TD run.

“We want to congratulate him and wish him well in the Super Bowl,” Bates said.
