The East Bay Express offers a good read today about the “thriving artists’ community” that has emerged in Richmond’s Sante Fe neighborhood.

That burgeoning community reportedly arrived after Jim and Jeff Wright converted some storage units in their self-storage facility at 23 Maine Ave. into studios for artists and musicians. The business, once called Bridge Storage, is now Bridge Storage and Art Space, and is located just north of Interstate 580.

The Wrights detail the evolution of their art space here.

According to the company’s website, the artist studios are “built with skylights, power, running water and french doors,” while the music rehearsal spaces are “soundproofed and ventilated 10 x 22 ft. rooms.” If that isn’t artsy enough, the facility even has its own espresso cart.

The Wrights are working on plans bring the facility up to code after reaching an agreement with city officials, the Express reported.
